Spring 2009 Registration Open Now! (details below)

A letter from BLAX President Anne Himmelstein...

Welcome to the 2008/2009 season of the Berkeley Lacrosse Club! We are thrilled to be practicing and playing our home games on the beautiful new turf at Gilman fields. This has been long awaited as returning parents will attest. No more rained out practices and games, and what a beautiful setting for our club. The new fields will give us a competetive edge we have long wanted as so many clubs in our league have had the longer practice seasons that turf affords.

2009 will be a remarkable year for lacrosse and a watershed year for our club. Lacrosse is now the fastest growing sport in the US, and Berkeley Lacrosse was the first club to establish in the Bay Area. With the sport’s new popularity, kids are finding us! I cannot describe how exciting it was to see so many new faces at the Solano Stroll—kids who played at the Cal Camps, and parents who played in their youth and are introducing their children to the sport.

My personal goals include those of our league, the NCJA which is to provide opportunities across our community for boys and girls of all ages to play this historic sport. This means providing uniforms, increasing our representation at important league and City of Berkeley meetings, outreach to elementary and middle schools to create awareness of the club, increasing scholarships, formalizing high school transition programs and managing our costs effectively.

As you can imagine, I cannot do this without the support of parents like you. This year, we are asking for more participation from our parents—in both traditional ways and perhaps the not so traditional. We will be recruiting one of you to be our new BLAX Volunteer Coordinator, who will manage all of the volunteer positions we need to fill and will ask you to be creative about ways that you can contribute to the club. Our goal is to make lacrosse accessible to any child and all families. Please join me in creating the next generation Berkeley Lacrosse Club.

Honor the game!
Go Bears!
